OSHA Reveals Top 10 Most frequently sited Standards

 

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is responsible for enforcing workplace safety standards. In 2022, OSHA issued a total of 424,379 citations and penalties for violations of these standards. The top 10 most cited OSHA standards in 2022 were:

  1. Fall Protection – General Requirements (1926.501): 5,260 violations

Falls are a leading cause of death and injury in the workplace. OSHA’s Fall Protection Standard requires employers to provide employees with fall protection when they are working at heights that could result in a fall. Fall protection can take many forms, such as ladders, scaffolding, and harnesses.

  1. Hazard Communication (1910.1200): 2,424 violations

Hazard Communication requires employers to provide employees with information about the hazards in their workplace and how to protect themselves from those hazards.   1. Respiratory Protection (1910.134): 2,185 violations

Respiratory protection is required when employees are exposed to airborne contaminants that could harm their health.   1. Ladders (1926.1053): 2,143 violations
